Speaker - Dr. Chales Mbohwa

About the speaker:
Dr. Charles Mbohwa is a senior lecturer in the Department of Quality and Operations Management at the University of Johannesburg. As a Fulbright Scholar, he recently visited The Supply Chain and Logistics Institute at the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology to create a new master's course in supply-chain management and conduct research on the adaptation of electronic supply-chain systems to less industrialized countries. He earned his PhD from the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology in Japan.

Talk abstract:
Charles will discuss the challenges, difficulties and problems faced by humanitarian organisations in running logistics systems in Africa and particularly in Southern Africa, with a focus on some systems in Zimbabwe. He will introduce mini-case studies of the operations of the World Food Programme, the International Red Cross Society and the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, the World Health Organisation, the United Nations Children's Fund, and the Zimbabwean Civil Protection Organisation in Zimbabwe.
